Use Google Calendar in Offline mode
You can easily use Google Calendar in offline mode.Using Google Calendar in offline mode is a good idea especially if you have other social network account associated with your Gmail Account.Basically, we all have our Orkut account associated with our Gmail account. The advantage is if you have a social network account like Orkut Account associated with your Gmail account, you can have access to Birthday and other events date at your desktop. So even if you have limited access to internet you can check Birthday of your friends.
To configure Google Calendar for offline mode, open Google Calendar and click on Offline link at top right.A message will appear asking to install Google Calendar for offline access.Enable offline access and install the Google Calendar gear and select create shortcut on desktop. After installing it will update the software for offline mode. After Sync, you can check the icon on desktop in offline mode.If you wish to include calendar from other websites like Orkut then goto setting–>offline, in other calendar select available offline checkbox for Orkut Calendar.
Have you tried Google Calendar in offline mode ? I believe it is actually very useful to have all the Birthday and other event date at your desktop even when you have limited or no access to internet.

I use Azotix Active Organizer to manage my Google events and contacts in offline mode. It offers two way synchronization of data with Google online applications.

Hi LutherianX
I have tested it in firefox and it is working fine.
And where chrome is considered we can expect it to supports Google Gears as both are developed by Google only.
Nope, this does not work. GEARS does not support firefox of chrome.
